Tips for Rhodes travelers on site and before departure

Vienna (OTS) Forest fires are raging on Rhodes, apparently threatening tourist areas and thousands of holidaymakers are being evacuated. The consumer protection association (VSV) summarizes the rights of affected holidaymakers.

The organizer of a package tour (flight and hotel from a single source) has an obligation to provide assistance – for example help with evacuation, obtain alternative accommodation or – if the return flight is missed – organize an alternative flight.

If the return flight is not possible on the agreed date, the organizer must provide accommodation, but only for a maximum of 3 nights without charging an additional fee.

Since the tour operator is not to blame for the forest fires, there is no right to compensation for lost luggage or lost holiday enjoyment. However, this is not relevant for warranty claims. Affected vacationers can therefore assert claims for a price reduction following their return.

If you are regarding to start your trip and have booked in the affected area, you can also withdraw from the package tour contract free of charge due to the loss of the business basis or accept a rebooking offer from the tour operator.

Anyone who has organized their holiday trip themselves and made separate bookings for hotel and flight cannot refer to the Package Travel Act and must therefore help themselves.
