CHICAGO (AP) — Cody Bellinger had four RBIs and Nico Hoerner had three of 15 hits for the Chicago Cubs, who beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-6 on Saturday in a wild, rain-affected matchup of divisional opponents.
Chicago trailed 1-0, 3-1, 5-3 and 6-5, before taking the lead for the first time, thanks to three runs in the sixth inning. Bellinger hit a two-run single to right field and Seiya Suzuki followed with a short hit that produced one more, giving the Cubs an 8-6 lead.
The start of the game was delayed 25 minutes. Then, it rained intermittently until it was necessary to stop the actions.
The 40,425 spectators at Wrigley Field sang to the Credence Clearwater Revival song “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” (Have you ever seen the rain?) during part of the 87-minute interruption.
Bellinger, who might be involved in a trade ahead of August 1, when the deadline for these transactions expires, continued to fire up with the baton. The 2019 National League MVP is hitting .382 (42-for-110) with 21 RBIs in his last 30 games.
Venezuelan Daniel Palencia (2-0) got one out and got the win. His compatriot Adbert Alzolay earned his ninth save.
Zack Thompson (2-3) was the loser.
For the Dodgers, Dodgers, the Venezuelans Yony Hernández 1-0 with a run scored, David Peralta 5-4 with a run run and two RBIs, Miguel Rojas 4-1 with a run run.
For the Rangers, Cuban Adolis García 1-0. Dominicans Ezequiel Durán 3-1 with a run scored, Leody Taveras 4-1.
