SAN LUIS RÍO COLORADO, Mexico – At least 11 people – four women and seven men – died and four more were injured due to an arson attack in a bar this Saturday in the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora, reported the State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE).

In a statement, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that the victims died burned by the flames in the Beer House Cantina establishment, located in the city of San Luis Río Colorado.

According to the first investigations, the fire was caused by an attack with a Molotov cocktail at the bar, located right in front of the border wall in San Luis Río Colorado with Arizona.

Among the victims there might be at least one American citizen, because the Attorney General’s Office in Sonora reported that a woman was transferred to receive medical attention in San Luis, Arizona.

“The Sonora Attorney General’s Office is conducting investigations to identify and capture a subject who intentionally set a fire in a bar in the Comercial neighborhood of San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, where so far 11 people have lost their lives,” said the official report of the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to versions of several witnesses, a young man insulted several women inside the bar, for which he was removed from it, to later return and throw what appeared to be a kind of Molotov cocktail at the doors of the building, which caused the incident.

Meanwhile, agents from the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency (AMIC) and Expert Services work at the scene to collect evidence.

The FGJE indicated that the investigations are still ongoing to clarify the facts and determine responsibilities once morest who or who is responsible.
