The students of Electric Superbike Twente presented on July 11, 2023 a electric motorcycle, dubbed Vector-ST. It is distinguished from its predecessors by its motor, equipped with a battery replacement system.
The students, who hail from Saxion and the University of Twente, beam with pride at their fire engine red racing monster. Bright red, it looks lightning fast. They worked on his engine. For the uninitiated, it may not differ much from its predecessor. But Electric Superbike Twente has indeed taken important steps in the development of the battery motor.
A next-generation electric racing motorcycle
The Electric Superbike Twente student team unveiled the Vector-ST, a never-before-seen electric racing bike. In partnership with Saxion students, the team has been designing Saxion’s engine since September 2022. This engine includes a system to replace the battery.
The students themselves call it revolutionary. With this system, you just have to 30 seconds to remove the battery and replace it. “Range is therefore no longer an obstacle to electric racing.
A number of changes were made when this replacement system was implemented. While the battery has always been fully attached to the frame, this time the structure has been changed. In addition, the design, dimensions and power of the battery have been significantly modified, which has made the Vector-ST electric motorcycle lighter. This reduction increases to 35 kg compared to its predecessor, whose total weight amounted to 220 kg. Because of this, the motorcycle is much easier to handle.
An electric motorcycle born from a close collaboration
The team worked closely with various partners, such as Ten Kate Racing, to optimize the technological potential of the engine. Almost every piece was designed by the team. This guarantees outstanding performance during races and allows the team to fully understand the capabilities of the Vector-ST.
The team’s goal is to build the fifth race bike, working with different partners to get the most out of all the techniques. The complete racing engine will be presented in July. The seventh Electric Superbike Team Twente then prepares the bike for the racing season. All this with the aim of preserving the race for future generations.
