Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced, on Friday evening, that Iran will not receive the new Swedish ambassador, and will not send its ambassador to Stockholm, unless Sweden takes serious measures once morest the person who offended a copy of the Quran, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA.
“Regarding the desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden for the second time, we held an extraordinary meeting with Iranian foreign aides to consider the appropriate response to the issue of desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden,” Abdollahian said in a statement reported by the agency.
And Iran’s foreign minister added, “I would like our citizens to know that the term of the Swedish ambassador in Tehran has expired, and the Iranian president has ordered not to receive the new Swedish ambassador, unless his country’s government takes serious measures once morest the person who offended a copy of the Holy Quran, and Tehran will not send its new ambassador to Sweden,” according to (IRNA).
The Iranian minister pointed out that Tehran announced this decision to the Swedish government and said: “We are looking for a unified and coherent approach with Islamic countries, to confront this behavior and preserve the sanctity of the Holy Quran.”
Abdullahian explained that “Sweden’s Foreign Minister called him on Friday evening, and expressed his condemnation of this Iranian action, and called for Sweden’s position to be communicated to Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, and I informed him that they cannot ignore the public opinion of two billion Muslims, and assured him that the statement of the Swedish Foreign Ministry is not enough, and the offending person must be arrested and tried, and we will hold talks with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to adopt a unified approach, as well as with the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah,” according to the Iranian agency.
