Electrical repairs: who to call?

The electricity network manager

In the event of an electrical fault whose origin is uncertain or linked to the meter, it is best to contact the electricity network manager. He will have to send a technician to his home at any time of the day and night.

Enedis, a subsidiary of EDF, is responsible for managing 95% of the municipalities. For electrical troubleshooting (problem on the meter), contact 09 72 67 50 XX (the “XX” corresponding to the number of your department).

The energy supplier

If you have noticed a breakdown in your electrical installation, call the network manager in charge of your municipality. You can contact your energy supplier’s customer service directly. A licensed professional will come to your home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Here is a list of the services offered by the different providers:

EDF breakdown assistance

Four home service solutions are offered in the event of an emergency. These are the electricity only option repair at €9 excl. VAT per month, the Electricity & Gas option repair from €15 excl. VAT per month, the Electricity & Plumbing option repair from €15 excl.

This is a subsidiary specializing in the maintenance of energy equipment.

Direct Energie breakdown assistance

Or Electricity assistance with electrical troubleshooting (socket, switch, electrical panel) for €2.99 including tax per month or Tranquility assistance (electricity assistance, with troubleshooting in the event of a plumbing or locksmith problem for €5.99 including tax per month).

The rental management agency

If you are in contract with a rental management agency for the lease of your home, you can call on it in the event of an electrical breakdown. A licensed professional will come to your home in the event of an emergency. The management agencies then take charge of the quotes.

As part of a rental, you can contact the owner of the property in the event of an accidental malfunction of your electrical installation. It is he who will take the necessary steps for any upgrading work.

The condominium trustee

If you live in a condominium and the breakdown is widespread, you have nothing to do. The syndic of co-ownership will have to contact the network manager or call on an approved professional to solve the problem. On the other hand, if only your accommodation is affected, you can ask your trustee to refer you to approved professionals.

In the event of a gas outage, it is essential to notify the manager of the natural gas network in France (GRDF). A toll-free number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A technician will quickly come to your home following a few hours.

Depending on the case, the steps to be taken are not the same.

General gas failure

In the event of a general breakdown on the natural gas distribution network, the GRDF or ELD gas must take charge of restoring the proper functioning of the network.

This outage may be due to:

an intervention on the network by GRDF requiring the gas to be cut off for a certain time. The only thing to do in this case is to wait until the end of this intervention, an incident at the network level (installations damaged following floods, a storm, etc.). No action is required in this case. You just have to wait.

Individual gas failure

If a gas failure affects your home, it may be the result of a malfunction in the interior gas installation.

This includes in particular the indoor installation (boiler, gas cooker, gas fireplace, etc.), and GRDF works (gas meter or regulator).

If it is a failure observed at the level of the gas cooker, contact a Gas professional (PG) for the repair of the appliance. In the case of the boiler, you can call on the company with which you have signed a maintenance contract, a maintenance professional who is a member of Synasav or the installer who is responsible for installing your boiler.

Breakdown on a GRDF or ELD structure

In this case, you can call 0 800 47 33 33 (gas emergency number) free of charge. This number can be reached 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. A GRDF technician will come to your home within 4 hours of your call (if the call is made before 9 p.m.) and between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. the next day (if the call is made following 9 p.m.).

If you depend on an ELD for gas, contact the customer service of this company and fill in the PCE number (point of metering and estimation) of your gas meter.

If the meter or the pressure regulator is faulty, the ELD supports the repair or replacement of the defective device. In this case, you will not be charged any costs for removal and repair. However, if these works are not defective, you will have to pay the technician’s travel expenses.
