The world gradually flocked to the Parc du Cinquantenaire on Friday evening until it was completely filled. According to estimates by the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone, 100,000 people were present. Citizens gathered in the park to listen to Belgian, Flemish and French-speaking artists of all generations, who sang, accompanied by an orchestra.

The public also heard Axelle Red, who, among other things, sang her famous title “Sensualité” in duet with Daan, but also Paul Michiels, who congratulated the King, whom he met for the first time when the latter was prince, he said, before qualifying Queen Mathilde as “mooiste koningin ter wereld”. It was Hamza, the rapper from Laeken, highly acclaimed by the public, and Loïc Nottet, who closed the concert.

The different pieces were interspersed with “testimonial” videos, through which some Belgians sent their congratulations to the King. Images of Belgians who have marked the history of the country over the past ten years have also been broadcast, starting with athletes such as the Red Devils, the Red Lions, the Belgian Cats, the Belgian Tornados, Nina Derwael, Nafissatou Thiam, Joachim Gérard, Bart Swings, Lotte Kopecky, Remco Evenepoel… But also artists and scientists such as director Lukas Dhont and astronaut Raphaël Liégeois.

The royal couple and their children were then invited to join the stage. The King, who was celebrating his ten years of reign, took the floor to thank the Belgians who had come in large numbers. “Wat een mooie avond, wat een mooi feest! Thank you all for this national holiday which is so dear to us”, he launched, before proclaiming an enthusiast: “Happy Belgium!”. The royal family lent themselves to the game of a photo of them on stage with the large audience in the background, and another with all the artists. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, whose Chancellery was the organizer of this evening, also seized the microphone to launch a “waar is da feestje?”

The festivities ended with a fireworks display, supported by a very impressive sound and light show.
