Swiss-Swedish ABB will supply electrification and automation systems for ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s (AM/NS India) new cold-rolled steel coil plant in the Indian city of Hazira.
In a statement, the company informed that two of the installation’s production lines will receive the ABB Ability™ System 800xA distributed control system, to improve energy efficiency indicators, rationalize the use of zinc in production and improve corrosion control in the final product.
ABB’s participation in the project was at the invitation of industrial equipment manufacturer John Cockerill India Limited (JCIL). The company is going to supply other types of systems for the Hariza factory, considered essential in the expansion strategy in the Indian market of AM/NS India, a joint venture between the French ArcelorMittal and the Japanese Nippon Steel.
“The expansion will help us to meet the growing demand for high quality steel, while expanding our portfolio of sustainable products”, said in the text Dilip Oommen, CEO of AM/NS India. “The new lines were designed to produce state-of-the-art value-added steel, within the strictest quality standards.”
The cold rolled coil plant is expected to start commissioning in 2024. Indian leader in flat carbon steel, AM/NS India has installed capacity to produce 9 million tons of crude steel per year in India.
The company produces different flat steel products, including value-added steel in the form of pellets, with a total production capacity of 20 million tons.
