The seriously ill received a reproachful serial letter – the text was changed under pressure from the Vienna People’s Party
Vienna (OTS) – A letter that 193 employees of MA 56 have received on sick leave since 2022 caused astonishment. “For example, during his hospital stay, a seriously ill employee was informed in a letter that he was sick and that he was a burden for his colleagues,” explains municipal councilor Hannes Taborsky, also state chairman of the ÖAAB Vienna, who submitted a request to the responsible city councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky in April. “Longer sick leave with convalescence periods and rehabilitation stays are precisely defined by employment law and these cases are well documented and traceable. Bullying hospital patients with this letter is unacceptable.”
In answering the question, the city council now admits that it was not the intention to put pressure on those affected and that the choice of words in the letter is being revised. “Seriously ill people need our compassion and support,” says Taborsky and continues:
“Measures to improve the work situation, avoid overloading and maintain health are the more sensible way than warning letters from the service authority,” concludes Taborsky.
