Maria Elena Walsh He is an icon of our culture and so that we never forget his incredible creations, his birthplace in Villa Sarmiento was inaugurated as a museum this week. After its transformation, the house can be toured with guided tours that include playful and interactive parts designed to immerse yourself in the work of the Argentine singer-songwriter, writer, poet and composer.

The inauguration of the Maria Elena Walsh House Museum It was held on Monday and was attended by various officials and those close to the artist. At the closing of the emotional act, the group Tamborcitos del EcunHi played, and León Gieco and Teresa Parodi performed some of their most popular songs.

The house is located on Calle 3 de Febrero at 547 in Villa Sarmiento, Morón district in Buenos Aires. It has an area of ​​more than 500 square meters and was acquired by the State to join the cultural heritage of the nation. The work of transforming the home into a museum was carried out by the governments of the Nation, the Province of Buenos Aires and the Municipality of Morón.

María Elena was born in this same house and lived the first years of her childhood there. For the restoration, work was done on the recovery of the original façade and the central patio, and all the dependencies were rebuilt to create six showrooms and events. The house had been uninhabited for many years and to remodel it, vibrant colors were chosen according to the luminous universe of the artist.

On the sidewalk of the house, a sculpture of María Elena seated on a bench welcomes visitors. Inside, among other works and recreations, there are for example a time line who reviews his biography with a story that emulates his voice and different representative objects from his childhood.

María Elena Walsh was born on February 1, 1930 and lived in this house until she was 14 years old. The house had been bought by Enrique Roberto Walsh in 1923 and today, among other objects, it has a small train that recalls his father’s work at the railway station and a space with flowers dedicated to the likes of his mother, Lucía Monsalvo. There is also a room that recalls the artist’s theatrical facet, a bathroom that pays homage to the turtle Manuelita, and a jacaranda tree in the patio in reference to her iconic song.

In addition to the guided tours, talks, workshops and different cultural activities will take place in the museum. The tours are from Wednesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
