Record-Breaking Junior Doctors’ Strike Results in Massive Appointment Cancellations: NHS England Reveals Shocking Figures

SOMERSET – NHS England has released details of the longest strike by junior doctors in its history. The five-day strike was held from 7 am to 18 am on 13th of this month. According to official figures, 1,01,977 inpatient and outpatient appointments had to be canceled due to this.

20,342 junior doctors in the NHS went on strike. Earlier, 1,06,120 appointments were canceled due to the strike. According to official figures, a total of 6,98,813 appointments had to be canceled due to the strikes by junior doctors in the last eight months.

NHS medical director and senior doctor, Sir Stephen Powis, said: “Several strikes by doctors will have dire consequences for patients and their families. Powis also reveals that the NHS was actually more in trouble with such strikes than it appeared. Powis said three-quarters of a million appointments had to be rescheduled following strikes in the past eight months.
