Rogue Lioness Sighting in Berlin: German Authorities on High Alert

The German authorities deployed tanks, armored cars, and army snipers in areas of the capital, Berlin, following monitoring a rogue lioness, who may be privately owned.

The police said that zoos and circuses complexes in the area did not lose a similar animal, which suggests that the stray animal belongs to someone.

The authorities warned residents in the regions of Kleinmachnau, Tilto and Stahnsdorf, outside the borders of the capital, and asked them to stay in safe places because of a “runaway wild animal”.

The alert was later extended to the southern districts of the city, and a message appeared on an official warning app saying the animal was believed to be a lioness.

Police spokesman Daniel Cape told local public broadcaster RBB that the alarm was raised following two men saw a “big cat” running following a wild boar.

“Since there is no zoo or circus, it may be a private animal. Sometimes people want to use animals to prove their strength,” said Nadine Ronco Alarcón of the Four Paws animal protection organization.

And the German news agency reported that “despite the state of alert, life continues as usual in the town of Kleinmachineau,” which has a population of regarding 20 thousand people.

The local authorities said that the nurseries were open, but the children were not allowed to play outside.
