Thousands of people have protested in Peru once morest the government of interim President Dina Boluarte. In the capital Lima and in the interior of the country, demonstrators took to the streets on Wednesday (local time) to demand the resignation of Boluarte and the release of ex-president Pedro Castillo. There were some clashes between police and demonstrators in Lima, the broadcaster RPP reported.
The former village school teacher Castillo was arrested in December on charges of an attempted coup and is in custody. Castillo had previously dissolved Congress to forestall a no-confidence vote. Parliament then removed him from office.
There have been numerous protests since December. At least 60 people were killed, according to the authorities. Amnesty International accused the security forces of using racially motivated violence in the violent crackdown on the demonstrations.
