From Monday to Friday, during the day, he is William Courtemanche, building mechanics technician, but on Tuesday, July 11 at lunchtime, it is with LOVA, the rapper, that the Festival d’été de Québec wanted to discuss .
“I had my annual dinner with my boss, says the one who works in an engineering consulting firm. I went out and I had a bunch of missed calls from my manager and my DJ telling me that we were wanted for the FEQ the same evening.
You will understand that during the followingnoon that followed this news, the rapper from Quebec was no longer in his head at his 9 to 5.
“I still went back to the office an hour before going to the Plains, I wasn’t tempted, but I still had work to do,” mentions LOVA, with her contagious laugh.
LOVA was grateful to his boss and his colleagues, who take his career as an artist seriously.
“I would say that before I was named Révélation Radio-Canada in 2022, my colleagues saw my music as a hobby, but since then they have understood that it is serious”, he rejoices.

A DJ’s Run
His DJ, he had to make the road from Montreal to Quebec in a hurry to arrive in time for the sound tests.
“After work, I barely had time to go home to change, then I headed for the Plains. My DJ arrived right on time for the sound tests”, relates the protege of the Joy Ride Records label.
“Cramped”
“I’m cramped.” This is the expression that LOVA likes to use the most when he thinks back on his journey. Far be it from him to be vain, he simply has a little difficulty believing in what is happening to him.
In 2020, he made his music public for the first time in his life; a few days later, he signed his first record deal with Joy Ride Records, who discovered him by chance on YouTube; barely a year and a half later, he was crowned Rap Revelation Radio-Canada; then, the icing on the cake, he was offered the Plains during the 2023 edition of the FEQ.
“When I say I’m cramped, it’s my way of saying; ayoye it works our business, he says. I do my job, I trust myself and I trust my team, then to date everything is tumbling in my favor”, he mentions, being aware that the career of an artist is fragile.
“If everything stops tomorrow, we will have come a long way and we will have had fun.”
Not too many expectations
Even if LOVA and her team were feverish and excited at the idea of going on the biggest stage of the Festival, and this, from their first participation in the event, the main interested party kept his feet firmly on the ground.
“I was saying to the guys: wait a bit; we embark [sur scène] at 7 p.m., at that time everyone is freaking out, plus it’s raining,” explains the man who presented his latest project, Everything comes from abovein the month of June.
“Finally, there were a few thousand people and the welcome was super warm; it was even mosh pits following the first song”, he says, still surprised.
LOVA will perform at the Festif de Baie-Saint-Paul on July 22 at 9 p.m.
