The Belgian member of the European Parliament Marie Arena (PS) was the subject of a search this Wednesday as part of the investigation by the Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office into alleged acts of corruption within the European Parliament.
“I was called today to be present at my home following the visit of the investigating judge as part of the investigation into Qatargate“, announced the deputy to the Belga agency, via her lawyer Me Michèle Hirsch.
The prosecution confirms that a search took place this morning. There is no need for a waiver of parliamentary immunity for this search because Marie Arena is a Belgian parliamentarian. The waiver of immunity only takes place for an arrest, which is not the case here.
The prosecution also specifies that, in all, six searches were carried out in various places linked to Marie Arena this Wednesday morning and that documents and computer equipment were seized.
This material should soon be analyzed.
Marie Arena’s lawyer, Michèle Hirsch, confirms that there was a search at Marie Arena’s home on Wednesday. This was done in accordance with the rules of procedure and therefore in the presence of the President of Parliament Roberta Metsola. If documents have been seized, Marie Arena has not been auditioned, nor has she been summoned for audition at the present time. Me Hirsch insists: “She is not in question“. By the way, Marie Arena is going on vacation.
