JJ Redick might be Jeff Van Gundy’s replacement on ESPN as soon as the NBA championship resumes. An increasingly important character in the NBA media landscape since the end of his career, the former sniper seems to hold the rope to take over this vacant position.

It was announced yesterday morning that former Sixers coach Doc Rivers was being tracked to join theESPN. This morning it is another figure of the League who is mentioned: J.J. Redick. According to Front Office Sportshe is favorite to succeed Jeff Van Gundy, recently fired by the chain.

J.J. Redick has emerged as a top contender to join ESPN’s lead NBA broadcast team, sources tell FOS.

Since the end of his playing career, Redick has quickly established himself in the NBA media landscape by offering a podcast, “The Old Man and The Three“, on which he regularly invites great players from the League. Quickly, his notoriety and the quality of his content related to his experience as a player attracted a fairly large audience. His Youtube channel flirts with the million subscribers. ESPN quickly smelled the good vein and invites him quite often on TV sets (especially on the First Take show) as an outside consultant, but also as a commentator on a few matches.

JJ Redick is compelling and up to date. He might be the perfect profile to replace Jeff Van Gundy. After 16 years holding the microphone, JVG leaves behind him a rather large costume that will have to be assumed. Nevertheless Redick seems to have understood the mechanics of the NBA media in the US and might logically impose himself as an opportune choice for the channel. However, he remains in competition with Doc Rivers, Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson.
