Monday followingnoon, the Old Market of Leuven experienced a major drama. It was around 5 p.m. that ambulances arrived at the Cocolo restaurant and left without anyone understanding the reason for their presence. The police also blocked curious eyes trying to understand what was happening, as reported by the newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
It was following a call from a man around 4 p.m. that the emergency services arrived. He explained in his call that he himself had been called by his former employer, whose statement was chilling to say the least. The latter said he did something to his wife and children.
It was later learned that the bodies of a mother and her five-year-old child were found in the apartment above the restaurant. A seven-month-old baby was also found at the scene but his life is not in danger.
Monday evening, around 10 p.m., the Leuven public prosecutor’s office requested the organization of research which was launched in Genk in Limburg.
Who is the author ?
The father and owner of the Cocolo since April 30, named Hengchun J., arrived in Europe in 1996. He is from Shanghai, China. Before arriving in Belgium, he lived in the Netherlands, where he became a citizen in 2015. It was in 2020 that he moved near Antwerp to Borsbeek where he will live with his wife, married in 2021. According to information found on social networks, he would be the father of four children.
It is also thanks to social networks that we were able to find Hengchun J.’s car, a green Mini Cooper whose photos had been shared online. This was found on Monday evening in Bokrijk, as reported by Het Nieuwsblad.
“An investigation by the Limburg public prosecutor’s office showed that the suspect committed suicide,” said the Leuven public prosecutor’s office.
