Gasunie earns well from the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Turnover of the gas transporter rose by almost a quarter, mainly due to extra use of the floating terminal for liquefied gas in Eemshaven.
This is evident from the company’s semi-annual figures. Gasunie’s net profit increased by 17 percent to 266 million euros.
The floating terminal was not yet in use at the beginning of 2022. With the supply of liquefied gas, the Netherlands ensures that it has sufficient gas. This is necessary because we hardly get any gas from Russia and the Groningen field.
In the past six months, only 4 percent of the gas in the Dutch gas network came from the Groningen field. A year earlier that was still 12 percent.
According to the company, in the Netherlands and Germany, where the company manages the gas network, no less than 10 percent less gas was transported than last year. In the Netherlands, the amount of gas transported was even the smallest ever in the first half of the year.
According to Gasunie, gas transport is declining because the winter was mild. In addition, citizens and businesses used gas sparingly because of the high prices.
