The southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa, which is important for grain exports, has come under fire once more. According to local media reports, explosions were heard in the city on Wednesday night. According to the governor of the region, the air defense was deployed for the second night in a row. Already on Tuesday, a few hours following the end of the grain deal, Russia had launched airstrikes in the Black Sea region.

Work will continue in Odessa even during the Russian attacks, stressed Serhiy Brachuk, spokesman for the port city’s military administration. Russia is trying “to scare the whole world, especially those who want to work for the grain corridor … Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations. But I think that all normal, sane people will look at us and say: Odessa was not afraid, is not afraid and will not be afraid – we will work,” Brachuk said in a voice message on his Telegram channel.

Russia has been waging a war of aggression once morest neighboring Ukraine for almost 17 months. The southern regions on the Black Sea, which are of great importance for Ukraine due to their port infrastructure, are also repeatedly the target of Russian shelling. In the past few months, millions of tons of food have been exported via Odessa as part of the international grain agreement. On Monday, Russia withdrew from the agreement.
