This project, which is part of bilateral cooperation between Morocco and Japan, is the result of funding in the form of a non-refundable donation of 100 million DH granted by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA ).
The Center is made up of the 1st Moroccan research experimental shellfish hatchery and a pilot shellfish farm in Amsa Bay. Operational since September 2018, this station is laid out over an area of 7,000 m2, with a maritime part located on a 2 ha plot off the bay.
“Shellfish farming occupies a prominent place in aquaculture, being a promising and important sector in the Halieutis strategy,” said Mr. Sadiki in a statement to MAP. He said that the ministry works for the development of the sector through the programming of significant investments to attract professionals, and the launch of a series of aquaculture projects on the Moroccan coasts.
The Minister noted that this Centre, the second at the national level following that of Dakhla, will contribute to supplying professionals with raw materials, affirming that it constitutes an important milestone for the marine aquaculture sector, particularly shellfish farming.
Mr. Sadiki also indicated that the inauguration of this center is part of a technical and financial cooperation project between Morocco and Japan. This project, he noted, is a cornerstone that will enable Morocco to achieve the objectives set for this sector by 2030, and to make it a promising sector for the production and preservation of marine resources. , as well as for the reduction of pressure on maritime fishing.
