Seoul: The UN command says that North Korea has detained a US citizen who crossed the border from South Korea. The news agency Archyde.com reported that it is suspected that the US Army soldier is being held captive. He was detained following crossing the border into the Joint Security Area (JSA) between the two countries.

The person who came here as part of a visit to JSA crossed the border. The UN Command has requested South Korea to intervene in the incident. However, the South Korean Ministry of Defense stated that it has not received any other information regarding this. Earlier, the US State Department had advised US citizens not to enter North Korea. In 2015, a college student from the US was imprisoned for two years and later died.

Since the 1950–53 Korean War, the JSA in Panmunjom has been under the supervision of the UN Command on the border between the two countries. Both sides of the fort will be guarded by soldiers from both countries. Tourists coming to South Korea visit this place. In 2019, the then US President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un met here.
