NEW YORK — The Powerball jackpot increased Tuesday to $1 billion following there was no big winner Monday night. However, there was a lucky man in New York who won a second prize of $1 million.
That New York winning ticket was sold at a Bronx gas station, Fairfield Food Inc, located at 2531 3rd Avenue.
Other winning tickets $1 million sold in Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Pennsylvania.
Monday’s winning numbers are 5, 8, 9, 17 and 41, and the red super ball 21.
The Powerball jackpot was last won in the drawing on April 19, 2023, when a ticket in Ohio matched all five white balls and the red Powerball to win a grand prize worth $252.6 million. Since then, there have been 37 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. The winless streak is due to the abysmal odds of winning: one in 292.2 million.
The longer the game goes without a grand prize winner, the higher the payout. And with jackpots becoming more common in lottery draws, with six big prizes between Powerball and Mega Millions exceeding $1 billion since 2016, this latest Powerball streak might likely become the seventh.
Powerball is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. It costs $2 to play.
Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm ET.
