Stay Safe at Tomorrowland: Police Warn of Thefts and Give Security Tips

The famous Tomorrowland music festival kicks off this weekend, in Boom. In total, nearly 400,000 festival-goers from all over the world.

An event that only happens twice a year and which many want to immortalize the moment. But the police disagree. “Enjoy Tomorrowland, but don’t film it,” she warns.

Police warn of thieves lurking at festivals and summer pools, reports Newspaper. Telephone, jewellery… the professional gangs attack any object of value.

The Antwerp police team in charge of pickpocket thefts advises to be particularly vigilant with regard to ill-intentioned people. “We are not looking for thieves, but for human behavior,” Sven, from the Antwerp police gang robbery team, told Nieuwsblad.

A maximum sentence of three years

“The counter is currently at 540 arrests in the act, but I still get excited every time I spot a theft. Radar is still on. When our team goes out to eat a sandwich, sometimes we come back with a thief,” Sven shares.

Finally, the police would like to urge all partygoers to always report thefts. “Even the security of the Tomorrowland site is sensitized. The more information we receive, the better,” explains Wim, Deputy Head of Department. “These reports are also very important for the ensuing sanctions. Ordinary theft carries a maximum sentence of three years. If further investigation reveals the existence of a gang, this sentence is already increased to five years. »
