Water Conservation Measures: Acting Mayor of Rochefort Imposes Stricter Rules to Combat Drought

2023-07-18 08:41:16

The acting mayor of Rochefort, Julien Defaux, issued a police order on Monday aimed at preventing any waste of water, in any form whatsoever, “given the state of drought and its effects of serious shortage”.

This ordinance notably prohibits the watering of courtyards, lawns, gardens, equestrian trails and vehicle maneuvering areas. The watering of the vegetable gardens is authorized if it is carried out by means other than the lance or the jet. The cleaning of terraces, sidewalks, paths, streets, gutters and vehicles in general, unless carried out by a professional cleaning company, is also prohibited.

This ordinance also concerns the filling of swimming pools other than installations of collective interest, including inflatable swimming pools and fountain basins; tank storage and filling; the watering of buildings, except if it is carried out within the framework of work making this operation essential and the watering of sports grounds between 09:00 and 21:00.

Violations will be punished by an administrative sanction.
