FC Bayern Munich is preparing for the new season with a short training camp at Tegernsee. Newcomers Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro were presented at a press conference on Monday. The Portuguese spoke for the first time regarding his much-discussed departure from Borussia Dortmund. The 29-year-old’s BVB contract expired on June 30th.
BVB offers Guerreiro a two-year contract
After a free transfer seemed very likely in winter, the BVB managers around Sebastian Kehl made the player a new offer for two years following a significant improvement in performance during the second half of the season. According to information from the Ruhr Nachrichten, this was rejected by the Guerreiro side, the left-back wanted to extend the contract for at least three years – like now with FCB.
Therefore, the statements of the new Bayern player were quite surprising. “I’ll be honest with you: I wanted to continue with Dortmund,” said Guerreiro. “But the board decided otherwise.” When the German record champion knocked, he “gave everything to come here.”
Guerreiro reunited with Tuchel
In particular, the renewed collaboration with his former sponsor Thomas Tuchel was one of the reasons for the change: “I remember many moments with him, it was only a year, but we won the cup together. When he called me, I immediately wanted to play for him once more,” said Guerreiro.
