2023-07-17 14:44:00

Withdrawing from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared on Monday that its government was removing guarantees for the safety of shipping in the Black Sea.

“This means the withdrawal of guarantees for the safety of navigation, the reduction of the maritime humanitarian corridor, the restoration of the regime of a temporarily dangerous area in the north-western Black Sea and the dissolution of the CCM [Centro de Coordinación Conjunta] In Estambul. Without Russia’s participation, the Black Sea initiative ceases to function as of July 18,” read a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry said the Russian government was opposed to a further extension of the agreement and officially informed the Turkish and Ukrainian sides on Monday, adding that the UN secretariat was also notified.

“Contrary to declared humanitarian goals, the export of Ukrainian food was almost immediately transferred to a purely commercial basis and until the last moment was aimed at serving the narrowly selfish interests of Kyiv and its Western commissars,” the statement said, using the Russian name of the Ukrainian capital.

“It should also be noted that during the year of implementation of the ‘Black Sea Initiative’, the Kyiv regime did not disdain to carry out provocations and attacks once morest Russian civilian and military installations under the cover of the maritime humanitarian corridor and navigation,” it added. the notice.

The ministry also stressed that the Russia-UN Memorandum did not work as planned.

“We are forced to state that none of the five systemic tasks set out in the Russia-UN Memorandum have been fulfilled,” the statement read.

“Under hypocritical gibberish regarding the needs of countries in the global South and the fact that sanctions supposedly do not apply to food and fertilizer, Washington, Brussels and London continued to ‘stamp’ their restrictions,” the statement added.

According to the ministry, Russia would be willing to consider reinstating the “deal” only if the West meets its obligations and actually removes Russian fertilizers and food from sanctions.
