For three months, the boulevard du Pont-d’Arve, a very busy road axis, will be completely closed to traffic for half of its length.

There are traffic restrictions that hurt more than others. The total closure of an entire section of the Boulevard du Pont-d’Arve for three months – due to a pipeline renovation project – is certainly one of them. Because this street linking Plainpalais and the Acacias on the one hand, and the Hospital, Champel and Rive on the other hand is very busy.
Indeed, the Coulouvrenière bridge-Plainpalais-Pont-d’Arve road axis is the main alternative to go from the Right Bank to the Left Bank, if you want to avoid traffic jams at the Mont-Blanc bridge, and this without take too big a detour. Its interruption will have an impact on traffic in a whole part of the Plainpalais district.
It is therefore the entire section of the boulevard between the Vingt-Trois-Cantons crossroads, on the plain of Plainpalais side, and the rue des Voisins, which will be closed from Monday until mid-October, subject to favorable weather conditions. to the good progress of the works. From mid-October to the end of October, traffic will be partially restored, since vehicles will be able to travel on a single lane.
Laying new pipes
The City of Geneva and the Geneva Industrial Services (SIG) must lay new pipes and, at the same time, carry out special works to allow the passage of a pipe under the tram tracks at the intersection of Boulevard du Pont-d’Arve and the rue de Carouge.
On this last street, the traffic is maintained, but the possibility of turning right on the boulevard du Pont-d’Arve is suppressed until mid-October. Rue Henri-Christiné is a dead end, with access from Rue Pictet-de-Bock.
DR
Traffic from the station is diverted via Harry-Marc and Red Cross streets (see map above). Vehicles coming from avenue du Mail and the Vingt-Trois-Cantons intersection must turn onto avenue Henri-Dunant, then go through place Neuve and rue de la Croix-Rouge. Finally, traffic from Les Acacias must make a long detour via Quai Charles-Page and Avenue de la Roseraie.
Trams maintained
With regard to public transport, the circulation of trams 12 and 18 is maintained throughout the duration of the works. As for bus 1, it is diverted until the end of October. Its route is modified, towards Thônex, Hôpital Trois-Chêne, between the “Stand” and “Lombard” stops. The “École-de-Médecine” and “Pont-d’Arve” stops are not served, and the “Cirque” stop has been moved to rue Jean-François-Bartholoni. The “Place de Neuve” stop on line 20 has been moved to rue François-Diday.
Parking spaces will be temporarily removed. Access on foot to buildings and businesses will be guaranteed at all times.
