The Endeavor Mining Group as part of its sustainability strategy has set environmental protection as one of the key pillars of its 2021-2025 sustainability strategy to help protect the places where the company operates.

Endeavor’s environmental priorities are focused on the fight once morest climate change, water management, the preservation of biodiversity as well as the reduction of plastic waste which is a global scourge whose effects are most visible in countries that host Endeavor Mining operations in Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Senegal.

Managing the impacts of gold mining on the environment, and doing so in a transparent manner, is central to governance at Endeavour.

The group has also implemented a special biodiversity policy. A voluntary attitude that shows Endeavor’s commitment to preserving the environment in general and preserving biodiversity in particular.

Through the Endeavor Foundation, the main vehicle of Endeavor which implements the group’s sustainable development projects at the regional and national levels in the countries where the Endeavor Mining group operates, the company initiates projects with strong sustainable development impacts, in particular projects related to environmental protection in Burkina Faso but also in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.

On the occasion of the celebration of National Tree Day organized in Burkina Faso on July 15, 2023, the mines of Houndé and Mana, both subsidiaries of the Endeavor Mining group, initiated activities within the framework of this daytime.

The Houndé mine organized reforestation in the relocated villages of Kari Center and West with plants of several species. Nearly 600 plants have been planted with the support of local communities. This activity had the support of the local administrative and customary authorities of the province of Tuy.

At the Mana mine, nearly 150 trees have been planted. During this year, the Mana mine plans to rehabilitate 20 hectares of land in Siou and Maoula. The group’s plastic management and reduction policy is well underway, and the Mana mine is no exception.

Beyond these initiatives, the Endeavor mines in Burkina Faso, in particular the Houndé mine, between 2017 and 2022 planted 26,000 trees. In terms of biodiversity preservation, the Houndé mine captured and relocated 410 snakes between 2018 and 2022, including protected species such as pythons.

Also, an awareness campaign for the protection of the environment was conducted by the mine in Houndé. A radio program during which the directors of health and safety and Social Performance discussed with listeners the need to protect the environment. This program was broadcast in June on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The Endeavor Mining group is considering more projects within the framework of environmental preservation. This is how the project to create a biodiversity preservation zone on all Endeavor Mining sites in Burkina Faso, but also in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, is under development.

Also, through the Endeavor Foundation, the group is planning a partnership with the Ministry of the Environment for large-scale reforestation in the green belt of Ouaga.

The sustainable development projects that Endeavour carries out, through either its Endeavor Foundation or its mines, are in close line with the sustainable development objectives of the United Nations system. The positive impacts of these projects are measurable and sustainable thanks to the means mobilized by Endeavor Mining.
