This is the last surprise of the media transfer window in mid-July and a very good shot from Marc-Olivier Fogiel, general manager of BFMTV. After twenty-three seasons on the public service, Laurent Ruquier arrives on the private channel BFMTV, a subsidiary of the Altice Media group of Patrick Drahi. From October 2023, he will host a new meeting, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Thursday, alongside Julie Hammett.

“I am very happy to join BFMTV, the reference news channel which offers me the chance to return to what has always fascinated me: the news, whether political, sporting, cultural or societal. This new challenge will be an opportunity for me to deal with and debate information, both by leaving room for the live but also by taking the time to reflect on events regarding which we sometimes tend to react too quickly without bring in the necessary nuances. »

For Marc-Olivier Fogiel, quoted in a press release, his arrival “signs the continuation of (the) desire for growth” of the continuous news channel. According to the general manager of BFMTV, “Laurent makes the choice of passion, he is a fan of information who spends hours and hours reading the press, listening to the radio and TV”.

“The choice of passion”

Laurent Ruquier had recently warned, on his Instagram account, that he had “decided to leave France 2”, where he presented in particular Children of TV for six years, and explain no longer feeling the confidence on the part of the management of the chain.

Recalling having revealed many personalities, such as Florence Foresti, Kev Adams or Léa Salamé, he felt that the deadlines were “short to appear in the September program grids already ready for the most part”.

In an interview at Parisian, the host acknowledges having also had discussions with TF1 and LCI. “I didn’t think I would have a choice. [entre LCI et BFMTV]. I did the big challenge, the most exposed channel. And friendship […]. How well I know Marco [Marc-Olivier Fogiel], we discussed it together, first in a friendly way. He didn’t expect me to be interested in a slice on a news channel. He told me: “You have to come to BFM!” »

In addition to BFMTV in October, the host will still be on the radio from the end of August to host a ninth season of Big heads on RTL.
