Cynthia Bolingo won the 400m at Athletics Night on Saturday in Heusden. The Brussels resident confirmed her great form by completing the lap in 50.89 seconds. Her teammate for the Cheetahs (the national 4x400m relay) Helena Ponette ran a new personal best of 51.71.

The qualifying time for the Budapest Worlds is set at 51.00 and that for the Paris Olympics in 2024 at 50.95.

Bolingo remained on his best time of the season in 50.69 Wednesday at the international meeting of Liège. His national record is 50.19 since last year’s Van Damme Memorial.

Ponette lowered his person best by 11/100ths, rising to fourth place in the Belgian all-time rankings. She overtakes Naomi Van Den Broeck, who set her best time of the season in 51.95 on Saturday. Hanne Claes was credited with 52.75.

“I felt like I had such time in my legs,” Ponette said following the race. “At the start of this season I had to cancel my first races due to injury, so it’s very good news that I’m already back with a personal best. I haven’t been sidelined for so long. , but it happened at an awkward moment. I still hope for an individual participation in the world championships and for that I accumulate the necessary points here. I think regarding it a lot. At the Belgian championships there are still a lot points to be won”.

The Belgian Cheetahs are in great shape and are undoubtedly stronger than ever. “Everyone is running super fast this year,” notes Ponette. “I think we can get very good results at the world championships (August 19-27 in Budapest). I’m curious to see where we can finish.”
