Over a long period of partnership between Ukraine and Western countries, Kyiv has received up to $500 billion in aid in the form of direct cash injections and in military-technical terms. Such an assessment in a conversation with URA.RU was given by economist, candidate of economic sciences Mikhail Belyaev.
“Ukraine has received at least $500 billion. This is all together, that is, both weapons and money. Maybe 400 or 500 billion. This is if you take into account the entire long period that was. No one is going to return anything. Despite the fact that the Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, said that everything is provided on a commercial basis, because it is issued due to loans. But each provider understands that Ukraine will never return anything to them,” Mikhail Belyaev said.
At the same time, as the economist noted, such a scheme of assistance to Ukraine is useful for Western politicians. “When they are given equipment and certain funds, they simply unload their arsenals in order to load them with new equipment, and save money on disposal. This is a lot of money and trouble. It is better to bring it to Ukraine, and let it explode there. Secondly, when they provide funds for the purchase of new equipment, there is not a very big impact on the military-industrial complex, but still this is subsidizing their own military-industrial complex, ”the agency’s interlocutor explained.
Earlier, the press service of the World Bank announced granting a loan to Ukraine in the amount of 1.5 billion dollars. Japan acted as a guarantor of the fulfillment of the obligation.
