Tour de France 2023: Vingegaard

At the end of a stage won by Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos-Grenadiers), Jonas Vingegaard remains in yellow, ten seconds ahead of a Tadej Pogacar who made the show.

Will this Tour de France be played out in seconds? One week before the final outcome of the Grande Boucle, we are on our way. This Saturday, the first big stage in the Alps made it possible to see that Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard are extremely close in terms of level. In the ascent of the Col de Joux-Plane, the last difficulty of the day, the Slovenian tried to distance himself from the Dane. For many kilometres, the yellow jersey navigates a hundred meters… before picking up once more, and taking the bonuses at the top.

A lesser evil for Jonas Vingegaard, who drove his team all day. The Jumbo-Visma padlocked the race, condemning the breakaways, to the chagrin of Thibaut Pinot and Guillaume Martin, among others. Finally, it was therefore necessary to wait for Joux-Plane to attend the major maneuvers. A very difficult pass, more conducive to the qualities of the Dane… who therefore failed to make the difference. During the day, the yellow jersey takes only one second from its great rival. Indeed, Pogacar finished second in the stage, just ahead of Vingegaard.

Gaudu exploded, Bardet gave up

Today’s winner is Carlos Rodriguez, now third overall. The Spaniard managed to limit the damage in Joux-Plane, before overtaking the leading duo on the descent to Morzine. The rider of the Ineos-Grenadiers formation signs the first victory of his career on the Grande Boucle. On the podium, he is… one second ahead of Jai Hindley, now fourth.

As for the French, the observation is hard. Now tenth overall, David Gaudu is more than eight minutes from the podium. Romain Bardet, for his part, gave up following a fall. From this Sunday, still in the Alps, the Tricolores will be keen to react. Unless the Pogacar-Vingegaard duo decides once once more to do battle…
