HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — At least four people were killed Saturday in a shooting in a small town south of Atlanta, Georgia, a local official said.
Henry County authorities said police were investigating an “active shooting incident” that happened around noon Saturday in Hampton, a city of 8,500, 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of Atlanta.
“I can confirm that four people are dead,” local government spokeswoman Melissa Robinson told The Associated Press by phone. “At the moment, the suspect is still on the run.”
Hampton, Georgia police said they would provide more details at a news conference in the coming hours.
Various police departments and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) were assisting in the investigation. GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said she had no information, other than that she had asked the agency for help.
