The action was staged by US photographer Spencer Tunick.

Almost a thousand Finns took to the streets and beaches of Kuopio naked early on Saturday morning. The occasion was an art campaign by the US photographer Spencer Tunick, who is known for his mass photographs of naked people. “Today the land of 1,000 lakes has become the land of 1,000 naked people,” said Tunick.

The art action started at 3am in the parks of Kuopio, where people posed naked amidst huge flower installations. Then it was off to the sea beaches of the central Finnish city, where more shots followed.

Tunick has made a name for himself worldwide with his nude actions. For example, last November, thousands of Australians posed for him, shirtless, on Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach to raise awareness of the risk of skin cancer.
