Bruxism is a condition that affects millions of people around the world. It is characterized by the involuntary grinding or clenching of the teeth, usually during sleep. Although many people may experience occasional bouts of bruxism, when it becomes chronic, it can have significant consequences for oral and general health.
Mariela graduated from the School of Dentistry of the National University of Córdoba. After receiving her title, she undertook a new stage and decided to settle in Neuquén.

Bruxism can become a trigger for various discomforts and problems in different areas of the body due to the muscular tension it generates. The facial and masticatory muscles are interconnected with other structures of the body, such as the muscles of the neck, jaw, and head. The constant and repetitive pressure caused by bruxism can generate a series of consequences in these areas.
The main symptom is dental wear. Due to the constant and repetitive pressure on the teeth, they can suffer excessive wear, fracture or even break. In addition, it can cause dental sensitivity, since the enamel wears away and exposes the most sensitive layers of the tooth.
Another common consequence of bruxism It is facial and jaw pain. Jaw muscles are put under excessive stress during clenching and grinding, which can lead to jaw pain, facial pain, and even chronic headaches. Besides, Bruxism can also cause temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, which manifest as clicking, locking, or difficulty opening or closing the mouth.
Relaxation techniques, such as breathing exercises and meditation help a lot to reduce stress and muscle tension.

“I decided to focus on this condition since it is the cause of many disorders and pain in different areas of the body,” affirmed the dentist who maintains that it is necessary to combine different techniques and therapies to provide effective and lasting solutions to patients.
«It is necessary that in the presence of these symptoms, an accurate diagnosis of bruxism can be made through clinical evaluation and analysis of symptoms and dental wear. It is also necessary to investigate potential triggers, such as stress and anxiety, to better understand each person’s situation.”Mariela commented.
Mariela shares a work team with Sara and Milagros Narváez.
The professional considers that there are many possible treatments to avoid it. “Relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises and meditation help a lot to reduce stress and muscle tension,” he said.
In addition to her private work, the dentist promised to disseminate information on the subject and provide tools to address this condition. To achieve this, he shares live broadcasts on his Instagram account and also through YouTube.
Among the techniques he promotes is the facial yoga, which consists of specific facial exercises and movements to relieve muscle tension and promote well-being. He also focuses on cervical therapy, which addresses the relaxation of the cervical muscles and its relation to bruxism. In addition, it promotes mindfulness (full attention) as a way to reduce stress and improve overall health.
