【Animal news】Birds are also life, but some people only regard them as toys, buy them to satisfy their desires, and throw them away when they are sick. A two-month-old parrot “Mong Kok Mei” became seriously ill. The owner not only planned to buy another similar parrot, but also threw Mong Kok Mei at the garbage dump. After Mongkok girl was rescued, the veterinarian found that her liver was severely damaged and enlarged, and she died in pain in the veterinary clinic. The shameful behavior of the owner is outrageous, but Guo Xiuyun, the founder of Hong Kong Parrot Rescue, suspects that Mong Kok girl’s illness is caused by the seller’s indiscriminate use of drugs. He describes this practice of using drugs to make birds look healthy, which is currently not under supervision. The situation is serious.

Hong Kong Parrot Rescue received a call for help on the evening of June 8, referring to a parrot being abandoned at a garbage dump. The story behind it is sad and angry. The young help-seeker heard a middle-aged woman carrying a box containing a parrot on Bird Street, and asked the shop assistant if there was a parrot of the same species and size for sale, and even claimed that it was used to replace the parrot in her hand, asking for help People quoted the woman as saying at the time: “It may be more expensive to cure a parrot than to buy a new one, and it is not sure that it will be cured. I bought another one, so that the children at home will not find out that the parrot is missing.” When the clerk asked her what she would When asked how to deal with the parrot in her hand, the woman answered that she had points.

Unexpectedly, the woman’s “score” was to put down the box at the garbage station and leave. The helper opened the box and found that the parrot in the box was seriously ill, so she asked Hong Kong Parrot Rescue for help.

Volunteers then took the parrot to a veterinary clinic and renamed it Mong Kok Mei, but Ms Mong Kok was too sick, her body was emaciated, her abdomen was hard and distended, the food in her crop was not digested normally, and she was extremely lethargic. The two-month-old Mongkok girl passed away on the morning of June 14th.

Laboratory tests found that Mong Kok Girl’s internal organs were severely damaged, her liver was severely enlarged, and hardened into a large piece. Excess toxins caused liver failure and pressure on other organs. She suffered great pain before her death.

Guo Xiuyun, the founder of Hong Kong Parrot Rescue, said frankly that some bird vendors would habitually use Tetracycline hydrochloride (Tetracycline) to suppress the birds’ unhealthy stereotypes. The cause is that the toxin in the liver exceeds the standard to death.

She bluntly said that Mong Kok Girl’s misfortune is not an isolated incident, and the government should legislate to regulate the use of drugs in birds to ensure that birds will not be mistreated during the trading process.

A group of volunteers from Hong Kong Parrot Rescue held a hospice ceremony for Mong Kok girl yesterday, allowing her to leave with dignity. Also on the show were the lovebird “Shang Shui B-Boy”, who was abandoned by the owner due to illness, and finally passed away, and the parrot “No Name”, who was abandoned by the owner and died the next day.

Mong Kok Girl was only two months old, but she was abandoned at a garbage dump due to serious illness, and eventually passed away in pain.

Although Hong Kong Parrot Rescue tried its best to save Mong Kok girl, but her liver was too damaged and eventually lost to the disease.

Hong Kong Parrot Rescue volunteers paid homage to Mong Kok Girl and two other parrots yesterday.

Mong Kok Girl (bottom) was buried with Sheung Shui B Tsai (top) who was also abandoned due to illness.

The hospice ceremony allows the deceased parrot to walk the last journey with dignity.

Guo Xiuyun, the founder of Hong Kong Parrot Rescue, estimated that the cause of Mong Kok Girl’s death may be related to the drug dealer’s abuse of drugs.

Guo Xiuyun believes that Mong Kok Girl’s misfortune is not a single incident, and urges the government to strengthen the supervision of bird traders using drugs.
