Rumors and video games are a long love story. From indiscretions to the most eccentric theories, including very well-informed people and broken embargoes, there is plenty to do and above all sorting. But when Jez Corden of Windows Central comes up with an idea, we raise our heads.

And you will know why my name is the Lord

Apart from official communications, reliable sources are rare. Some people reveal themselves over time, and we tend to trust insiders who have given good information more than others, but even then we must be careful. Information, true at the time it is retrieved, can become false following a decision taken by publishers or studios.

When the source is reliable, the main interest in dealing with certain rumours, when they come from people considered to be reliable, is to create a form of archive that will allow us to look retrospectively at the production of a title. Today, we are interested in Blizzard and for once, it is not at all linked to the takeover by Microsoft, even if it might have consequences in the future. A fan, using Twitter, asked Jez Corden if the StarCraft license was going to be revived once the takeover was completed, to which the journalist replied that there will be no need to revive it.

Several people then asked if he was talking without saying regarding StarCraft, to which Jez Corden replied several times with a “yep”, including when asked if he knew anything. In other words, StarCraft 3 would be in development, and we imagine that this would be great news for fans of the franchise, who have been waiting for news since 2015 and the release of Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void. However, a few hours later, Jez Corden replied to Insider Gaming, indicating that he returned “a little” to these remarks, but that it should be remembered that “the franchise was not dead”. Good.

A rumor that is already growing and will last until November

He also added that Microsoft doesn’t need to revive StarCraft, and that slightly reinforces the feeling following a recent statement by Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard. Also on Twitter, he said:

We have so much to come from our talented teams. Some people told me a few years ago that Blizzard was a sleeping giant. To these I say that the sleeping giant is awake and in good health. Players are at the center of everything we do, and always will be. We are just getting started.

The links were therefore quickly made, and many players now imagine it to be a way of saying “don’t worry, StarCraft will be back”. For now, we will be careful not to say that StarCraft 3 is in development, but Jez Corden seems sure of his shot. So, would you like to see Terrans, Zergs and Protos return in the future? We might quickly be fixed, because Blizzard announced the real return of BlizzConwhich has not taken place in person since 2019. The fans have an appointment in Anaheim on November 3 and 4 to find out what the studio has planned. And who knows, maybe we’ll call it “the first BlizzCon of the Microsoft era”.
