SPÖ WILL PUSH THE YOUNGEST MAYOR OF AUSTRIA BY RESIGNING FROM OFFICE
Vienna (OTS) – Austria’s youngest mayor, Florian Hofmann, has been in office in the municipality of Pernersdorf since Monday. Now the SPÖ wants to force new elections by resigning the entire parliamentary group. The Young ÖVP demands an immediate cessation of such methods and clear words from the SPÖ federal party.
“We expect the SPÖ to apologize to the mayor and to stop such methods immediately. Youth must not be a reason for exclusion, age no qualification. There are numerous successful young mayors in Austria. The SPÖ should also recognize this and measure Florian Hofmann by his actions,” said General Secretary Dominik Berger.
“A young person wants to take on responsibility and got a majority for it. The fact that the SPÖ is now trying to call for new elections is a frightening signal to every young person who wants to improve something in their area,” said Berger.
The Young ÖVP represents numerous young leaders in Austria. In addition to State Secretary Claudia Plakolm, one MEP, eight members of the National Council and a dozen members of the state parliament, the Young ÖVP also provides numerous young mayors and has been networking them at regular meetings since 2016.
