(CNN Spanish) –– “We’ll get this thorn out no matter what,” Juanes told CNN this Friday, following a free concert he was offering on Wednesday in New York’s Central Park was canceled due to the large crowd of people who attended.
Juanes’ SummerStage concert — a series of free concerts on a stage inside the iconic park — had a capacity of 5,000 people, but according to event organizers, at least another 12,000 crowded outside the gates.
“Given the continued crowding at the doors, and as a precaution, the decision was made to stop the show during the performance of their second song, and fans were asked to leave the venue,” Latin Alternative Music detailed in a statement. Conference and City Parks Foundation SummerStage.
They added that this was the first time in 30 years that a concert had to be canceled for that reason.
“I take this opportunity to thank all the people who were there for having shown that affection,” Juanes told CNN.
