Oman’s Midday Rest Law: 250 Violations of Worker Rights Unveiled

Officials have reported 250 cases related to non-implementation of midday rest for workers in Oman. The midday break law came into force in Oman from June 1. Such violations have been found during inspections conducted by Ministry of Labor officials in various governorates of Oman.

Engineer Zakaria bin Khamis Al Saadi, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Department at the Ministry of Labor, said that strict action will be taken once morest companies that do not implement the law on midday rest for workers.

According to Article 16 of the Oman Labor Law, the period from June 1 to August is a holiday for workers who work outside. According to this, the company and employment institutions are obliged to give rest to the workers between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm. The Ministry will take legal action if any kind of violation is found in the establishments operating during noon hours. Violators may be fined up to 500 Riyals and imprisoned for one month.
