RPGs Starfield and Baldur’s Gate III have found themselves at the epicenter of the console wars between Xbox and PlayStation fans. Adherents of competing platforms are actively arguing regarding which RPG deserves high scores on Metacritic, the media noticed. Until recently, no one tried to compare these games, but everything changed following the sensational presentation of Baldur’s Gate III and statements by well-known Western journalists regarding the very high quality of the brainchild of Larian Studios. The picture was supplemented by the release date – the third part of Baldur’s Gate will be released on the PlayStation 5 consoles simultaneously with the appearance of Starfield on the Xbox Series X|S. Avid PlayStation fans began promoting Baldur’s Gate III as an exclusive response to Starfield. They call Bethesda’s game a “relic of the past” and “another reskin of Skyrim”, discouraging users from buying an Xbox for it, while Larian Studios’ game is presented as a “modern revolutionary RPG, which does not exist”. Bethesda supporters who favor Xbox consoles responded by calling Baldur’s Gate III “half-indie” and “archaic gameplay,” emphasizing that it can’t really compete with Bethesda Game Studios’ blockbuster, spectacular long-term build. At the same time, some have already begun to accuse journalists of wanting to undermine interest in Starfield with stories regarding the magnificence of Baldur’s Gate III. Such comments, in particular, are received by Jason Schreier, who talked regarding buying a new PC for the sake of one Larian Studios game. Beyond the controversy are RPG lovers who are interested in both games. It’s worth noting that Baldur’s Gate III may come to Xbox in the future, while Starfield will officially remain an Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusive. According to reviewers, Baldur’s Gate III might take Larian Studios “to the big leagues”, as happened with CD Projekt RED following the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
