The husband of the deceased Selena Quintanilla has been reunited with his family for the first time following several years apart.

Chris Perez, who was married to the Tejano singer for three years before her murder, revealed that he recently spent time with his late wife’s father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., and her sister Suzette Quintanilla. The meeting comes two years following Chris and Abraham settled a years-long legal dispute.

“I took a trip to Corpus today. Guess where I ended up? Chris, 53, wrote on his Instagram account on July 12 during a visit to Abraham’s office. “It was so great to see everyone and see the amazing operations of Q. Productions but more importantly catching up with Suzette and Abraham. I can’t wait to go back and visit family! Good times!”

Suzette also shared the photo of her with Chris on her Instagram Stories, writing, “Had a blast catching up with @chrispereznow.”

Selena and Chris, a former guitarist in her band, eloped in 1992 following secretly dating. In 1995, Yolanda Saldívar, president of the singer’s fan club, shot her to death. Selena was 23 years old.

Written by Chris Pérez, “Para Selena, con amor” (“To Selena, With Love”), published in 2012 under the Celebra imprint of New American Library, a division of the American publisher Penguin Group.

The legal battle between Chris and Selena’s family members stems from her husband’s plans to adapt his 2012 memoir To Selena, With Love into a miniseries.

Ultimately, such a project never came to fruition. In December 2016, Abraham sued Chris in a Texas court, alleging that by writing the book and signing the television production contract, he had breached an estate agreement he had signed following Selena’s death in 1995 that stipulated that her father has exclusive rights to his daughter’s property, such as her name, voice, photographs, her story, and other rights in perpetuity.

Five years later, in September 2021, Chris and Abraham filed a joint motion to dismiss the lawsuit. “Good news! I wanted to give everyone an update to let you know that I have amicably resolved my legal dispute with Abraham Quintanilla, Jr. and the entire Quintanilla family,” Selena’s husband tweeted at the time. “Now that these issues are behind us, my hope, and the hope of the Quintanilla family, is that we work together to continue to honor and celebrate Selena’s legacy.” Abraham issued a similar statement on Facebook, which has since been removed, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.

Chris, Selena’s father and other members of her family had last met publicly nearly a year following the lawsuit was filed, posing for photos together at a ceremony to unveil the singer’s new star on the Paseo. of Hollywood Fame in November 2017.

Despite the lawsuit, Selena’s story ended up making its way to the small screen, and her family licensed Selena: The Series, which ended its two-season run on Netflix in May 2021. (E)
