The President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum and his delegation visited the facilities of the Diamond Trading Company (DTC), the state-owned company which exploits, processes, sorts and sells diamonds from Botswana, the world’s second largest producer of this precious stone.
Around 20,000 people work for the DTC at different stages of the chain: mining, processing, sorting and selling. Botswana is associated in this exploitation with the South African giant De Beers, within an entity called Debswana un.
The Nigerien delegation received extensive explanations on the operation of the diamond chain and visited its sorting centre. The Nigerien head of state is taking part in the capital of this southern African state at the United States-Africa summit.
