The boss of Trattoria Maccheroni announced on Friday that the restaurant would close its doors. Located in the center of Liège, rue Feronstrée, the well-known establishment of Liège residents can no longer continue to receive its customers under the current conditions.
“If our stubbornness, our passion and our desire have allowed us to get through a succession of pitfalls and unforeseen events, today the trattoria is forced to move on to another stage in its life and development” , can we read on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The boss then puts forward all the reasons which motivated his choice to close the doors of the establishment in Liège: the Covid crisis, the shortage of staff, the increase in energy prices and the fact that his other restaurant in Tilff, Polpo, was destroyed by flooding three weeks following opening. But that’s not all: the work on the tram and the presence of drug addicts in the neighborhood convinced the Maccheroni team.

“Throughout this chaotic construction site (of the tram, editor’s note), we have passed over gas cuts and cellar floods, we have passed over sewer overflows due to human error, at the above the unmarked sidewalk openings preventing customers from accessing the restaurant… But our decision to leave for other horizons was this new neighborhood insecurity, this new population wandering around with a syringe in hand (or in the arms) and which attacks our customers and our staff”, writes the restaurant team, who does not want his job to become “a risky job”.
“Today, leaving the center of Liège is no longer a choice but an obligation. We are making this decision for the better and to come back better”, concludes the boss, who is not giving up and is already looking for a new place to continue to welcome its customers.
