Is biting your nails harmful?
The rule is simple – in case of pathological problems: changes in the color and shape of the nail plates, ingrown nails, the appearance of constantly recurring corns, corns and cracks, itching on the foot – you do not need to go to the usual salon, but you should sign up for a medical pedicure in a specialized clinic. Moreover, a good beauty salon will not accept a patient with these problems, but will refer you to a specialist.
What is the difference between a medical pedicure and a regular one that you will get in any salon? Medical pedicure is aimed at solving pathological problems with the skin of the feet and nail plates. This procedure is performed by a podiatrist, a specialist with a secondary or higher medical education who knows the anatomy and physiology of the foot and skin, and understands the reasons for the appearance of a particular change.
In many cases, a well-performed medical pedicure helps prevent ingrown nails, cracks, and fungal infections. When a fungal infection is affected, medical pedicure is an important part of complex treatment and improves the effect of external antifungal agents. The task of a medical pedicure is not to temporarily relieve the symptoms, but to save the patient from the problem once and for all.
In a specialized clinic, the patient will be consulted, if necessary, by a dermatologist – if a fungal infection has joined, an oncologist surgeon – if the removal of the nail plate is required or modification of the nail is associated with a subungual formation, an orthopedist-traumatologist – if correction of the arch of the foot and the manufacture of orthopedic insoles are necessary.
The medical pedicure itself is carried out using a special apparatus with milling nozzles for processing nails, periungual ridges and skin of the feet. All instruments and consumables are either disposable or disinfected and sterilized.
In many chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus, psoriasis, eczema, keratoderma), medical pedicure is indicated as a prevention of complications.
Cosmetic pedicure is an exclusively hygienic procedure, it does not suspect treatment. The pedicure master is not required to know why the crack appeared and how to get rid of it. Just like a hairdresser may not know how to treat seborrheic dermatitis. This is the domain of a dermatologist.
After successful treatment with a podiatrist, you can return to the pedicure master in the salon, if, of course, you want to.
