Four-legged Swiss robots: the future of space exploration

In the small village of Neuheim, south of Zurich, everything seems peaceful. However, in an isolated rock quarry, strange workers are busy. They are three robots a few tens of centimeters high, each perched on four articulated legs, searching the rocks in search of who knows what.

This experiment, which took place a few months ago, is now the subjectof a study published this July 12 in the journal Science Robotics. Its main author, Philip Arm of the Robotic Systems Lab at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ), describes the intention: “We simulated an exploration of the Moon on places that were similar to our satellite, help of robots responsible for carrying out several tasks.
