Atlanta, USA (CNN) — US President Joe Biden on Thursday played down concerns that Russian President Vladimir Putin might use nuclear weapons amid signs of chaos in Russia following last month’s failed insurrection by the Wagner Group.
“I don’t think there is any real possibility that Putin will use nuclear weapons, but no one knows what will happen,” Biden told CNN anchor Arlette Sainz at a news conference in Helsinki, Finland, Thursday. “Don’t go for that option, don’t go for that.”
The US President revealed his opinion regarding the future of Wagner’s leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, following the rebellion, as Prigozhin’s whereregardings remain unknown, although he met Putin following the rebellion.
Biden joked: “I think that determining what happens to Prigozhin is something that only God knows, because only God knows what will happen to him, I am never sure and we are not sure where he is, and what relationship he has. If I were him, I would be careful what I eat.” I’d watch the menu carefully.”
And Biden continued, saying: “Let’s joke aside, who knows? I don’t know. And I don’t think any of us know what Prigozhin’s future is in Russia, so I don’t know how I can answer that question any further.”
When asked if he believes Russia might interfere in the upcoming presidential election, Biden indicated that such efforts are already underway.
And the US President said: “First of all, they are already interfering in the US elections, so this will not be a new thing, they did it last time, they tried.”
