Environmental Services & Solutions Expo survey reveals concerns about government’s net-zero emissions target

LONDON, April 20 /PRNewswire/ — The National Environmental Services Survey released a stunning statistic: Only 11% of environmental services professionals in the UK believe the government will meet its target of net-zero emissions by 2050. This worrying finding highlights, among other things, the urgency of accelerated action and concerted efforts to combat climate change.

The survey, conducted nationwide in collaboration with experts and stakeholders, provides a comprehensive examination of the country’s most pressing environmental concerns. Through extensive data collection, valuable insights and unique perspectives, the survey seeks to gain an in-depth understanding of environmental challenges and promote effective solutions.

Among the key findings of the survey is the surprising finding of a lack of confidence in the government’s ability to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Environmentalists, who have detailed knowledge and expertise, express their doubts regarding the government’s ambitious goal. This finding underscores the need for increased efforts and collaboration to address climate change and the transition to a sustainable future.

The National Environmental Services Survey also unearthed insights that underscore the challenges facing the environmental sector. Financing restrictions, rising costs, budget pressures and the current economic situation have become major obstacles. These hurdles must be addressed to ensure the continuity of environmental initiatives to achieve significant change.

In addition, greenwashing was identified as the aspect that most environmental professionals within the sector would like to change. One speaks of greenwashing when a company specifically advertises certain activities in order to appear ecologically more sustainable than is actually the case. This study finding underscores the importance of transparency and reputable sustainability efforts to build trust and positive environmental impact.

Encouragingly, 80% of the companies surveyed are either implementing or planning to implement a net zero strategy. This demonstrates a far-reaching commitment to addressing the climate crisis and transitioning to a greener, more sustainable future in environmental services.

Environmental professionals, stakeholders and the general public are invited to actively engage with the survey results at the Environmental Services & Solutions Expo (ESS) at the NEC in Birmingham on September 13-14.

The results of the survey will be the focus of the ESS, the UK’s largest gathering of environmental professionals, where more than 12,000 attendees are expected to share best practices, hear from thought leaders in the field and share the future of the planet design.
