A Apple seems to be advancing in the development of its self-driving car, the much talked regarding “Apple Car”. According to macReportsthe company has expanded its team of drivers, indicating that the project is still more alive than ever.
With this latest update, Apple has increased its number of drivers to 152representing a growth of 5% between April 28th and July 7th. Although it is a smaller number than before, it shows that the company is not giving up the market.
Earlier this year, Apple had a team of 201 drivers registered to test its self-driving vehicles in California. However, last April, the team was reduced by 25% — leaving only 145 drivers; the number of autonomous vehicles has since remained unchanged at 66 vehicles.
It is worth remembering that the company has not yet sought permission for the vehicles to operate fully autonomously, focusing on improving autonomous driving capabilities first.
During this testing period, there was an incident involving one of the vehicles. Last May, one of the cars used by the Cupertino giant was rear-ended while stopped at a stop sign.
Fact is: Apple still hasn’t officially announced the “Apple Car” (it doesn’t even seem close to announcing it); therefore, all his plans are kept in the strictest secrecy.
Analysts initially predicted a 2024 release, but due to the complexities of self-driving technology, they are now suggesting a later release, possibly in 2026.
