According to INSEE, the general level of consumer prices in the Paris region was in 2022 7% higher than that of the rest of metropolitan France (excluding Corsica), a difference to be compared with that of remuneration: the net hourly wage average employee is 9% higher in Île-de-France than in the provinces and that of a manager is 28%.
Expenditure relating to housing (rent, water, maintenance, gas, electricity and other fuels), which represents 15% of the household budget in the provinces and 18% of the household budget in the Paris region, is the item for which the price differences are the most marked. Prices in the Paris region are thus 21% higher than in the provinces, the difference being concentrated on rents, which are 40% higher than those in the provinces with comparable housing characteristics.

More expensive prices in Corsica
With regard to food products and non-alcoholic beverages, which represent on average 15% of the French household budget, their prices in 2022 were 7% higher in the Paris region than in the provinces. Clothing prices are on average 6% higher in the Paris region, with this difference even reaching 12.6% for shoes.
The prices of restaurants and hotels in Île-de-France are 7% higher than those in the provinces. The price difference is more moderate (+5%) for leisure and cultural expenditure and is only 1% for furniture, household items and routine home maintenance.

Lastly, INSEE notes that the general level of consumer prices (excluding rents) is globally 7.5% higher in Corsica than in the rest of the province. Food products and non-alcoholic beverages are the item with the largest price difference: +14%.
